Basis for an Evaluation of the Effectiveness of a Rehabilitation Program: 8-Week, Ten-Bed Facility for Homeless, Pregnant Teens with Substance Abuse Problems
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 5 page paper discussing the effectiveness of an 8-week rehabilitation program. An 8-week program within a ten-bed facility is evaluated regarding its substance abuse rehabilitation and effectiveness for pregnant, homeless teen clients and is compared with other programs and research. The program addresses health, psychological and social issues in addition to substance abuse and prevention of relapse. As in almost all drug treatment facilities, “three out of four teens in drug treatment drop out of their programs before finishing”. Most drug treatment programs are based on a minimum 90-day program, considered the minimum required for the best prevention against relapse, in which case an 8 week program of ~ 60 days may have a slightly higher completion rate, in that the program is not as long, but also a higher relapse rate within the teens after they leave the program. If only 3-4 teens out of 10 complete 90-day programs, a 60-day program may have a completion rate slightly higher in that perhaps 4-5 teens may complete the program. Overall, an 8-week substance abuse rehabilitation program for teens by all accounts seems to be too short to have any long term effect providing that the teens even complete the program. In addition, the teens in this program were pregnant and homeless. In most cases then, the program would not even cover the time of the pregnancy which would release these teens back out on the street in the same basic state in which they entered the program. The program should be at least as long as the pregnancy and an additional six months within the program would prove even more beneficial. In this time, the teen could acquire more contact with community social and medical care facilities and programs in additional to learning valuable medical care, family planning and care of the child if she desires to keep the infant. In addition, because a child is involved, the social and community services need to be involved from the onset in regards to the social planning while the facility can focus on the substance abuse factors and programming for the teen. Benefits and Costs of a Taxpayer Focused (Public) Healthcare System (Canadian Based)
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 5 page paper discussing benefits, costs and possible modernization of the public health care system in Canada. Canadians currently appreciate the public healthcare system in their country mainly because the Canada Health Act guarantees free health care to anyone in the country. Despite this advantage over other countries in which patients have to pay for health care and may be turned away if they are unable to, the Canadian taxpayers also realize that health care costs are increasing and this will eventually become a burden on the average taxpayer. Rather than give up the public system for a private system or a two-tiered system which would create an inequality in health care services for the public, the Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) has offered a report outlining certain areas in the current system which could be modernized including the Canada Health Act. While keeping universal health care as a priority, the CTF believes that the new principles of the system should be public governance, quality, accountability, choice and sustainability in addition to structural changes that would allow for individual accountability measures, intergenerational fairness and a commitment to innovative technologies. The taxpayer would still be the central focus of the health care system while increasing the efficiency of the current system. Bibliography lists 2 sources.

6 pages in length. The Emergency Medical Service (EMS), which is comprised of Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), firefighters and other rescue personnel, devote their lives to helping others in times of crises. Theirs is a dedication that goes above and beyond the human call of duty, however, they do not think twice about the potential sacrifices to their own lives. Still, even the most physically and emotionally steadfast EMS workers are prone to succumb to the images of death and destruction they see over and over again; the recently resurrected issue of bioterrorism reflects one of these times. Remember: Not all papers contain examples of thesis statements. Some provide information you can cite in support of your own thesis. To determine if a particular paper provides an exemplary thesis, review its description carefully. If the content suggests that the paper makes an argument or sets out to prove some point, then that paper inherently
supports a thesis.
